The diversity of the terroir and grape varieties<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe vineyard is made up of a mosaic of microclimates across the various terroirs of this young cru in the Southern Rh\u00f4ne Valley.\nAdd to that the diversity of grape varieties used in the blend, as well as the age of the vines, and you\u2019ll find a multitude of possible combinations.\nBut we\u2019ve managed to absorb the knowledge passed down by the previous owners – insights that, combined with the experience of the past five years, allow us to define a clear and precise plan for the 2024 harvest.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The first stage of the harvest : white grapes<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

All grapes are harvested by hand. Our Spanish pickers, who are housed on-site for the duration of the harvest, arrived on September 4.<\/p>

September 6<\/strong> and 7<\/strong> were dedicated to harvesting the white grape varieties. We picked the Viognier<\/strong> from Col du D\u00e9bat\u2014a cool, high-altitude, north-facing terroir\u2014alongside the Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne<\/strong> from the Beauregard area. This sector, located on the terraces of the left bank of the Aygues River, benefits from the natural coolness brought by the nearby water.<\/p>

By planting early-ripening varieties like Viognier on later-ripening terroirs\u2014and vice versa\u2014we’re able to harvest each grape at its optimal maturity, all within the same time frame.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Harvesting the red varieties : Cinsault, Syrah, and Grenache<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Vitalis sector, on the right bank terraces of the Aygues River, includes an old parcel of Cinsault<\/strong> that we were able to harvest starting Monday, September 9<\/strong>. These grapes were put into the vats alongside the young Syrah<\/strong> from Beauregard, which were harvested shortly after. From September 14 to 17<\/strong>, we picked the young Grenache, Syrah, and Marselan<\/strong> vines. Planted in neighboring villages on lighter soils, these grapes go into the blend for our C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne Rouge. Then, we returned to Beauregard to harvest the old Grenache and Syrah vines<\/strong> for a second batch of Cairanne red.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Vineyard Selection : Le Col du D\u00e9bat<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Following this, starting from September 20<\/strong>, we harvested our parcel selection of Cairanne Rouge \u201cLe Col du D\u00e9bat.\u201d What a magnificent terroir<\/strong>! On these slopes at 250 meters altitude<\/strong>, facing north<\/strong>, the old Grenache vines<\/strong> find deep clay soils that give this cuv\u00e9e a very distinctive character<\/strong>. A small parcel of \u201cSerine\u201d (a massal selection of Syrah with low yields originating from C\u00f4te R\u00f4tie) completes the picture. The grapes from Le Col du D\u00e9bat are vinified in a wooden vat purchased in 2019, which allows continuous exchanges between the must, oxygen, and wood throughout the entire fermentation process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Harvesting after the equinox rains<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Following the customary rains of the Autumn equinox, on September 27th<\/strong> we harvested a third batch from old vineyard parcels located in the southern sector of the appellation, within the Garrigues terroir. This terroir, characterized by rounded stones from the ancient riverbed of the Ouv\u00e8ze, near the Plan de Dieu, is specifically dedicated to Grenache and Mourv\u00e8dre – Mediterranean varieties well adapted to withstand dry summer conditions. In this vat, we blended these grapes with Grenache<\/strong> and Mourv\u00e8dre<\/strong> exhibiting similar profiles from the Vitalis terrace.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The final pruning shears will be used for the parcels in the Beauregard sector, \u201cnext to Mireille.\u201d These are relatively young vines (15 years old!) of Grenache and Mourv\u00e8dre, which require more time to reach perfect maturity. Being less deeply rooted, they pause their growth during the hottest hours of summer. We harvested them last, between October 1st and 5th.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Winemaking and first tastings<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tImmediately afterward, we proceeded with the racking of our red wines and the pressing of the fermented pomace\u2014operations that are decided based on tastings of the young wines and generally take place after 3 to 5 weeks of maceration, depending on the qualitative potential of the grapes. The first tastings of this young vintage allow us to confirm that the 2024 vintage will be well balanced, combining beautiful aromatic expression, ripe tannins that are present but not overpowering, and just enough acidity to support the wine during its aging period.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
