Our terroirs OF cairanne
Our estate covers 18 hectares, 12.5 of which are in the Cairanne appellation. The cuvées produced in this beautiful appellation express the geological and exposure diversity of its terroirs. They are divided into 3 main areas:
- the stony garrigues of the Plan de Dieu to the south and the Vitalis to the south-west,
- the Miocene hills, where our parcels of the Col du Débat are located, composed of grey and white clays, facing north,
- the Aygues terraces, sandy and south-facing, containing fossil oyster shells, vestiges of the sea, …
The classic grape varieties of appellation area make up the vineyard, with Grenache noir reigning supreme. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Counoise and Cinsault complete the grape varieties. The average age of these red grape varieties is over 50 years, the oldest vine existed in 1902. The white grape varieties occupy a much smaller area. The vines of Grenache blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc are about 30 years old, recently completed by Roussanne. In 1999, a small plot of Viognier was also planted on the Col du Débat terroir. A northern exposure and altitude which contributes to the freshness of the wines.
