Press review : Decanter

Cairanne white 2021 92/100
A very complete and harmonious nose. Medium-bodied but full of flavour, driven forward by lovely bright acidity. Finishes pure, clean and fresh..

Cairanne red 2021 89/100
Surprisingly deep in colour for the vintage. Damson fruit, quite juicy under fairly firm tannins. Good acidity, with alcohol in check. A touch sober perhaps, but this has good structure and balance - still one to drink fairly young.

Cairanne red 2018 91/100
Grenache-dominant (55%). Lifted aromas of menthol and fresh raspberry. Full, smooth and juicy, with a lovely sense of harmony. The alcohol is noticeable, but this one of the more successful wines in a difficult vintage; vibrant though not for a long ageaing. Drink 2020-2022.

Cairanne Col du Débat 2019 91/100
There is a sense of purity and lifted freshness to the strawberry and raspberry fruit. Medium-bodied, remarkably well-balanced for a 2019 Cairanne. Tight, fine tannins, good acidity, grippy finish. More vibrancy than most this year, and better balanced. 60-year-old vines grown on a north-facing slope made up of clay limestone and pebbles at 250m altitude. Aged for 12 months in demi-muids and used barriques and bottled with fining or filtration.

Cairanne Col du Débat 2020 91/100
Expressive and pure blackberry fruit, this has plenty of brightness and cut, with enough fruit to match the tannins which are big, driving and will take time to settle. Good sense of freshness and drive. Needs time.
